The microbiota of the respiratory tract has an important role in maintaining respiratory health. However, little is known on the respiratory microbiota in asthmatic patients among Middle Eastern populations. This study investigated the respiratory microbiota composition and functionality associated with asthma in Emirati subjects.
We performed 16S rRNA and ITS2-gene based microbial profiling of 40 expectorated sputum samples from adult and pediatric Emirati individuals averaging 52 and 7?years of age, respectively with or without asthma.
We report bacterial difference belonging to Bacteroidetes, Firmicutes, Fusobacteria and Proteobacteria phyla between asthmatic and non-asthmatic controls. Similarly, fungal difference belonging to Ascomycota, Basidiomycota phyla and other unclassified fungi. Differential abundance testing among asthmatic individuals with relation to Asthma Control Test show a significant depletion of Penicillium aethiopicum and Alternaria spp., among poorly controlled asthmatics. Moreov eventually lead to the development of screening biomarkers to predict early asthma development and novel therapeutic approaches.
These differences provide an insight into respiratory microbiota composition in Emirati population and its possible role in the development of asthma early in life. This study provides important information that may eventually lead to the development of screening biomarkers to predict early asthma development and novel therapeutic approaches.Maintaining adequate perioperative hepatic blood flow (HBF) supply is essential for preservation of postoperative normal liver function. Propofol and sevoflurane affect arterial and portal HBF. Previous studies have suggested that propofol increases total HBF, primarily by increasing portal HBF, while sevoflurane has only minimal effect on total HBF. Primary objective was to compare the effect of propofol (group P) and sevoflurane (group S) on arterial, portal and total HBF and on the caval and portal vein pressure during major abdominal surgery. The study was performed in patients undergoing pancreaticoduodenectomy because - in contrast to hepatic surgical procedures - this is a standardized surgical procedure without potential anticipated severe hemodynamic disturbances, and it allows direct access to the hepatic blood vessels.
Patients were randomized according to the type of anesthetic drug used. For both groups, Bispectral Index (BIS) monitoring was used to monitor depth of anesthesia. All patients rprotocol number is AGO/2017/002 - EC/2017/0164. EudraCT number is 2017-000071-90. Clin.trail.gov, NCT03772106 , Registered 4/12/2018, retrospective registered.

Timely and effective screening of their mental-health problems is important to individuals, families, and the whole society. The Kessler-6 screening measure (K6) is a very popular instrument for non-specific psychological distress. However, few studies have focused on the psychometric properties of this instrument in the older population.
The present study employed Mokken scale analysis to evaluate its dimensionality and structure. This study also used differential item functioning (DIF) to examine whether the same structure existed across sex in a national representative sample of old Chinese people. Data were drawn from a public data set, the 2010 China Family Panel Studies (CFPS2010), and responses from a total of 6450 participants aged 60?years old and above (3136 males and 3314 females) were included in the final analysis.
Mokken scale analysis supported the unidimensional structure of the K6. Differential item functioning (DIF) analysis revealed that two of the six items ("Hopeless" and "Everything was an effort") were marked for DIF based on the Chi-square. However, their impacts were negligible in terms of McFadden's pseudo R.
The K6 demonstrates adequate psychometric properties in the old Chinese population. The sum of all six items can be used as an indicator of non-specific psychological distress. Differences in the indicator across sex should be considered as a real difference in psychological distress between the female and the male.

A small proportion of patients may have difficulty in generating IgM or IgG antibodies against SARS-CoV-2, and little attention has been paid to them.
We present two cases of confirmed COVID-19 patients and characterize their initial symptoms, chest CT results, medication, and laboratory test results in detail (including RT-PCR, IgM/ IgG, cytokine and blood cell counts).
Both of patients with confirmed COVID-19 pneumonia failed to produce either IgM or IgG even 40 to 50?days after their symptoms onset. https://www.selleckchem.com/ This work provides evidence demonstrating that at least a small proportion of patients may have difficulty in rapidly gaining immunity against SARS-CoV-2.

Articles were identified in PubMed, EMBASE and the Web of Science and were included if they evaluated the effect of IH on the changes in the infarcted area after AMI in rats.
A preliminary search identified 3633 articles and 29 data sets from 23 articles (12 in vivo, 16 in vitro). The IS decreased after AMI in IH rats both in vitro (SMD -1.46, 95% CI [-?2.37, -?0.55]; I?=?85.6%, P?=?0.000) and in vivo (SMD -1.43, 95% CI [-?2.05, -?0.82], I?=?73.6%, P?=?0.000). Sensitivity analysis indicated that IH had a strong protective effect against myocardial infarction, and the hypoxia concentration was significantly correlated with the change in IS after AMI.
IH can reduce IS after AMI in rats. This effect of IH may be related to the dose of hypoxia, and the oxygen concentration may be one of the most important influencing factors.
